Volunteer 211 Resource Curator/Updater

What is 211?:
United Way’s 211, a free and vital service that connects millions of people to help every year. 211 provides expert, caring help in over 150 languages by phone, text and online. Under current conditions, our 211 program is busy responding to callers seeking information about the COVID19 virus and local public health response in addition to callers looking for mortgage/rent relief, food distribution sites, motel vouchers for those who are experiencing homelessness, etc.

Do you enjoy surfing the internet? Do you pay close attention to detail?

UWBA's 211 Curator/Updater volunteers will update the resource used by our Call Specialist. Call Specialist assess caller needs, search an online database and refer callers to various community resources.

As a resource updater, you’ll:

  • Attend a 1 hour virtual training
  • Request updates from local community services on their programs and services by emailing, calling, and interviewing program staff at Bay Area service providers.
  • Conduct web, email, and phone follow up to these agencies if there is not an immediate response
  • Document these updates using a shared document

And you are:

  • Curious and inquisitive
  • Detail oriented and thorough
  • Available to spend a 3-4 hour chunk of time (at a minimum) during business hours per week to talk with provider staff and update the shared document
  • Comfortable with using a computer, web searches, and shared Google docs
  • Professional and friendly on the phone

If this sounds like you, please express interest below and we will follow-up with you on the next steps.

This opportunity is still development, the qualifications, commitment, and description may change.  We may not have a shift for you right away, but once you click express interest, we will communicate directly with you on the status.

Thank you for your interest. We look forward to working with you as a volunteer!
