DIY Taxes @ Las Positas College

Help clients prepare their own returns using free software! Volunteers will assist clients with tax and software questions, while clients and students learn how to prepare their own returns, leaving with a new found skill. Fremont Family Resource Center hosts free tax prep at four sites throughout the Fremont Area including Fremont Family Resource Center, Ohlone College Tri-Cities Career Center, New Haven Adult School and Union City Family Center. This orientation will give an overview of the program, walk you through how to register for a tax site on our website, provide details about training, and will leave time for questions. VITA @ 4Cs (EKS)

4Cs hosts VITA with clients every Thursday night during the tax season from 5 pm to 8:30 pm. The site serves many families with children and is especially in need of Spanish speaking volunteers, tax preparers, greeters, and intake volunteers. There is ample parking at the Hayward location. Volunteers at this site generally take advantage of the training at Cal State East Bay the first three Saturdays in January. More information will be available after you register.

Join EBALDC at the bustling Asian Resource Center and provide free tax preparation to clients in need. EBALDC is always in need of volunteers who speak another language. Volunteers are needed on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2 pm to 7:30 pm and on Saturdays and Sundays from 9:30 am to 4 pm. Cooperative Center is a community Federal Credit Union that has deep roots in Berkeley. The site is open for tax preparation most weekdays Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm. The site sees many members and many seniors, as well. Schedules and shifts will be determined with the site coordinator after you register! There is a parking lot as well as public transportation nearby.

The Unity Council provides service Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and some Saturdays from 10:30 am- 5 pm. Please work with the Site Coordinator after you register to determine the best shifts for your schedule. This site is especially in need of Spanish speaking volunteers, including translators who do not prepare taxes. The site is a short walk from the Fruitvale Bart Station.

4Cs is expanding their services to Oakland and is looking for volunteers to help intake tax documents to be prepared later. Many families visit the Oakland location, and volunteers are needed weekdays with the shifts and schedules to be coordinated based on your schedule! Ample parking is nearby and Spanish speaking volunteers are always needed. Specialized training for valet VITA and intake will be provided.

Valet VITA @ Building Skills Partnership - Alameda

DAYS OF OPERATION: all Thursdays from Feb. 20, 2020 through Apr. 9, 2020 SHIFT TIMES: - 9:30AM - 11AM (early morning) - 11AM - 12:30PM (midday) - 2PM - 3:30PM (early afternoon) - 3:30PM - 5PM (late afternoon) - Simply choose ONE of the above shifts that you can do on a weekly basis! If you can do multiple (or all) shifts, that's great but not required. ROLES / LANGUAGES NEEDED: We are looking for volunteer tax preparers, greeters / intake specialists, translators, and a savings champion (who would be in charge of helping taxpayers sign up for the savings raffle)! We especially need volunteers who can speak Spanish. This is NOT a requirement to volunteer at this site, but the majority of our clients speak Spanish. Building Skills Partnership has been participating in the local Earn It! Keep It! Save It! tax coalition for 4+ years! Mobile Team - Earn It! Keep It! Save It!

United Way Bay Area hosts pop-up free tax preparation events throughout tax season. Express interest here to be added to our notification list for special event volunteers. We primarily need Advanced Certified tax volunteers who already have some experience volunteering at their regular site, though Spanish translators are also needed.
